Election Protection in Your Own State - Where you are a Licensed Lawyer or Registered Voter

We The Action* identified the following Election Protection opportunities for lawyers to volunteer in your own state – a state in which you are licensed, or a state in which you are a voter.

  1.  Serve as a Poll Monitor: Support voters at the polls, answer questions, and connect those denied the ballot to legal resources. Shifts are available in Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

  2. Observe the Official Canvass: Volunteers will observe the official canvass and report on mass challenges to ballots and attempts to halt the canvassing process. Shifts are available in Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.

  3. Be an Election Protection Challenger: Challengers have the right to challenge the actions of poll workers if the challenger believes that the poll worker is not following the law. Shifts are available in Michigan

  4. Monitor County Board of Commissioner Meetings: Document discussion or action taken on election related matters. Shifts are available in Nevada

  5. Go to Court to Protect People’s Right to Vote: Address issues flagged by poll monitors, contact county elections officials and, if necessary, go to court. Shifts are available in Pennsylvania.

  6. Join your Neighbors as a Poll Worker: Check voters in at polling places and show them how to use the voting equipment. And most importantly, ensure we have safe, fair, efficient elections for all voters. Shifts are available nationwide

  7. Restore Voting Rights: Several states have laws that make it hard for people with past convictions to restore their right to vote. Lawyers are needed to file rights restoration petitions in Florida, Arizona, and Tennessee.
