  • Highly flexible hours (days, evenings, weekends)

  • Commitment ranges from one day to multiple days, or part of a day. (You could even work for an hour during your lunch break each day!)

  • Voter Protection Hotline (remote), Poll Monitoring, Lawyers’ Boiler Room (State or National), Canvass monitor (monitoring ballot counting), and various other roles.

  • You can work in-person in states around the country, or remotely from your home or office.

    • No, you do not have to be a lawyer! Anyone interested in promoting the Rule of Law can do Voter Protection . You need not be a law student, lawyer, law professor, or other legal professional!

But some states require that certain voter protection roles be filled by a lawyer, or perhaps by a resident of that state who is eligible to vote there.

    • There is no fixed minimum! But, at the very least, all Voter Protection Volunteers will devote 60 or so minutes to a training session.

    • After you are trained, depending on what role you take on, you can work as little as an hour to as long as full time for until and beyond Election Day.

    • If you have a busy schedule, you could devote 30 or 6o minutes per day to online Voter Protection, e.g., helping voters “cure” their absentee ballots that the voters cast but were rejected by Boards of Election due to, e.g., lack of signature or date.

  • Yes! Online training sessions tend to be 60 or so minutes. You will also receive written materials to review.

    • All citizens who are eligible to vote should be able to exercise their constitutional right to vote. When you engage in Voter Protection, you help ensure that voters are able to exercise their right to vote. If you help even one person cast a ballot, you will have been successful. Each of us — whether we are volunteering online or in-person, in our own state or a swing state — will almost certainly assist more than one person vote who would not have been able to exercise their right to vote, but for your assistance.

    • You can, and will, make a difference!

    • Thank you very much for your willingness to participate in the very important undertaking. Please pick Form # 1 or Form # 2, sign up, and move forward towards preservation of the important constitutional right to vote.

What can you do to help protect the right to vote, on Election Day and before?

  • During Early Voting, you may work either in-person at live satellite early vote sites, or remotely, perhaps taking calls on a voter protection hotline for a particular state.

  • You can be a Voter Protection Volunteer on election day, at a polling station, helping voters who face challenges. For example, you can assist voters who have been turned away after being told that their ID was not valid, that their signature does not match the signature on the poll books, that they are at the incorrect precinct, that their name does did not appear on the poll book, or that because of long lines they may have to wait hours to be able to cast their vote (with no food or water).

  • Monitor ballots as they are being counted! This involves being physically at central vote-counting sites in cities across the country.

  • Before your volunteer shifts begin, you will undergo a short but intense training on the relevant law in the state where you will volunteer. On election day, you will have access to a Team of highly specialized election lawyers who can answer questions you may not be able to answer on the ground.

  • You can do virtual voter protection work from your kitchen table, your office, or gathered with a group of friends sitting around card tables in your basement. All you need is a smart phone, or maybe a laptop or ipad!

  • If you can help even one person exercise their right to vote on election day, you will have made a great contribution to democracy!

This election will be close. Each vote counts!
