Lawyers For Justice – Volunteer for Voter Protection

Lawyers for Justice seeks volunteers to do voter protection during Early Vote, on Election Day, and beyond. They will host an information call (26 September 2024), and provide more details.

1.       Lawyers for Justice call virtual meeting to do Voter Protection.

Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 9:00 PM EST   /   8:00  CT/6:00 PST.

2.       Lawyers for Justice was created to engage, train, activate, and deploy licensed attorneys and legal professionals across the country in five distinct roles focused on voter education and election protection. The call will describe action and strategy regarding the 5 volunteer and training opportunities listed below, and ways to get involved:

a.       Election Administration Advocacy. Legal professionals are needed to help with legal issues related to general election administration, including arising before early vote commences.

b.      Poll Monitoring.  Legal professionals are stationed at polling sites across the country to help ensure that each eligible voter who appears is able to cast their constitutionally protected ballot. If a prospective voter is challenged, poll monitors may advise on issues related to voter ID, signature matching, voting at the correct voting station, etc.

c.       Canvass Monitoring.  After polls close on Election Day, ballots are tabulated. Voting machines are secured. Confirmation tapes are printed.

d.      Boiler Room Support.  A campaign may have a series of isolated command sanctuaries that will operate on Election Day to handle legal crises arising at polling locations around the country, as reported by poll monitors. Poll monitors, who are stationed at polling sites, may identify legal issues involving individual voters, irregularities affecting all voters at the polling site, etc., and report those issues to legal professionals in the Boiler Room, who seek to resolve the issue, which could represent a one-off issue, or could be part of a pattern that requires advocacy at election boards or state or federal courts. Boiler Room professionals will receive calls from polling stations across the country, and can identify problems that are arising in more than one polling place, perhaps in polling places across a state or across the country, which may evidence systemic problems that need to be addressed by state or national representatives of the campaign.

Each state will have a Boiler Room, and there will be a National Boiler Room.

e.       Filings, Pleadings & Litigation (in immediate response to voting issues).  If the Boiler Room spots a need, advocates are in place to litigate voting rights issues at the local Board of Elections level, or at the state or federal court level.

Lawyers for Justice points out:

Individuals have the right to vote and the right to have their vote counted and certified.

And, “More importantly, it is clear that there are intentional efforts to disrupt the certification process and impugn the integrity of the election.”

Questions:  “Please direct any questions to training@deltasigmatheta.org”.
